Hi Smashers,
Get ready for an action-packed edition where we cover:
- We need you!
- Near and far queues
- Gala, gala, gala
- Trials and tribulations
- The future of our Club!
- Calendar content
- Competitive courts
We need you!
On Sunday, 6th October, the United Energy Around the Bay bike ride is calling for volunteers, and they’ve reached out to us for help. For every volunteer we provide, they’ll donate $75 to the Club! We need 24 fabulous volunteers to step up.
As a volunteer, you’ll be a Route Marshal between Albert Park Lake and Williamstown. Shift times vary slightly by location but all fall between 5am – 11:30am. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference and help our Club raise funds with just a few hours of your time. Please, please, please help us achieve this! Email Melbournesmashers@gmail.com now to register your interest, and we’ll send you more details.
Near and far queues
We’ve posted crucial information, including an instructional video, to explain how we’re streamlining the management of playing sessions to reduce congestion and enhance your playing experience. These changes take effect on Tuesday, 3rd September. Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with them.
Gala, gala, gala
We’re just a few short months away from our Trans Tasman Tournament and 10th Anniversary Gala celebrations! While the tournament is nearly sold out, there are still tickets available for the Gala event, which promises to be the night of the year.
It will be an evening of feasting, celebrating, and partying, all for just $160 per person (Afterpay is available). Grab your friends, get a table, and make it a night to remember. Get your tickets here.
Trials and tribulations
Thank you for your feedback on our trial with the pink shuttles. We are continuing the trial in September and welcome any additional feedback as we explore our options.
The future of our Club!
The Committee has set aside a few hours on Sunday, 13th October, for a ‘strategy day’ to address ongoing concerns and themes raised by members. Topics include membership numbers, playing venues, and community engagement/visibility (e.g., Midsumma). We’ll invite your ideas and considerations ahead of that day and share a summary of the discussions. Rest assured; no major changes will be made without broader member consultation.
Calendar content
We’re continuously improving the information available to you so you can make informed decisions. The Playing Calendar now includes details on when weekday session tickets are released.
Competitive courts
Ever wondered why we lose courts on Tuesday and Thursday nights? The answer is Central Badminton Association hold their competitions on those nights. The good news is that we’ve been invited to contribute players/teams. If you’re interested in knowing more, click here.
Until next month, happy smashing!
Simon
